Democrat Al Gore has become one of the most successful failed US presidential nominees
US; September 1, 2008.- Here are some facts about Gore since he conceded defeat to George W. Bush in the 2000 White House race, a razor-close contest ultimately decided by a divided Supreme Court:
* 2001, concluding Bush is determined to block bids to curb global warming, travels worldwide giving slide shows he had earlier assembled on the threat of climate change.
* 2002, rules out running for 2004 Democratic presidential nomination; later decides against running for 2008 nomination.
* 2004, co-founds Generation Investment Management, devoted to proving the environment can be “integrated into a mainstream investment process in a way that enhances profitability.”
* 2005, co-founds Current TV, a news and information cable and satellite network aimed at people in their 20s.
* 2006, writes a book, produces a documentary based on his slide show: “An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About it.”
* 2006, helps found the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy group.
* 2007, movie version of “An Inconvenient Truth” wins an Academy Award; book version becomes a bestseller.
* 2007, wins the Nobel Peace Prize for campaign against global warming.
