The demonstration was timed to coincide with President Felipe Calderon attending an event at the oil terminal to mark the anniversary of the expropriation of Mexico’s oil industry. Passions have been stirred up by the idea of private partnerships with the state oil monopoly Pemex to try to shore up the flagging industry. The poster reads “Here come the pirates, and they’re going for the treasure”.
