Description
At the half-way mark between the adoption of the Water Framework Directive and the good water quality which the Directive is designed to achieve within the Community, European water management law is currently going through a phase of extraordinarily profound change.
Reconciling the conflicting interests of using and protecting water resources, as well as integrating them into economically determined decision-making patterns, to some extent poses completely new challenges for law-making and the administration of law.
The purpose of this conference is to make overriding current structures and future trends in the dichotomy between economic and ecological interests tangible and to examine them in greater depth by analysing exemplary issues. At the same time, the conference seeks to provide a forum to discuss and exchange views on competing visions and concepts within the Community and in the Member States, and to contribute towards the further development of law in this field.
