Ten supermarkets have withdrawn fresh salmon products because of fears they could be tainted by diesel, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said
LONDON, UK: February 18, 2008.- In a statement, the agency said the affected products could have an unpleasant “white spirit” taste but were unlikely to be a risk to health as the chemicals causing the problem were at low levels.
The salmon had been supplied by seafood company Marine Harvest to retailer Morrisons and to food firm Young’s Seafood, which supplies fish products for other supermarkets.
Marine Harvest is investigating the cause of the contamination, which it believes is diesel, the FSA said.
The following supermarkets have taken the affected salmon products off their shelves: Asda, Booths, Budgens, the Co-op, Nisa-Today’s, Sainsbury’s, ShopRite, Somerfield, Tesco, as well as Morrisons.
Organic salmon products are not affected by the withdrawal.
