France started a system of CO2 penalties and discounts on the price of new cars in a bid to boost sales of vehicles with low greenhouse gas emissions

PARIS, France; December 7, 2007.- The Ministry of Ecology said the penalties range from 200 to 2,600 euros (US$3,826) for more polluting passenger cars and the discounts from 200 to 5,000 euros for cleaner cars.
