Rolling on the River, a bike ride to benefit the environment, is back for a second summer along the Fox River
LOS ANGELES, US; July 23, 2007.- House Republican Leader Tom Cross of Oswego and Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn will co-chair the Aug. 25 event, which combines a cook-out, hiking, canoeing and camping with bike rides ranging from 15 to 100 miles. Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora is the organizer of the outing.
“This is a terrific event for the area and sets a great example of physical activity and exercise that is much needed in young people today,” Cross said of the ride.
Money raised by bike-riders will go to the Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund, the Prairie Rivers Network and the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, three non-profit groups committed to nature preservation and education.
Bike riders will travel paved, light-traffic routes beginning and ending at the Hoover Outdoor Education Center in Yorkville.
“Cyclists can enjoy a safe, scenic ride along the beautiful Fox River while they help to create a healthier environment,” said Quinn, who is chairman of the Illinois River Coordinating Council.
Rush-Copley is encouraging residents to bring new and used bikes to the event for donation to a group of non-profits that provide bikes to young people who cannot afford them.
