EL PASO, Texas; April 28, 2007.- Northern Mexican state Chihuahua’s Juárez municipal water and sanitation agency JMAS has called for bids on the construction of a wastewater treatment plant there, the North American Development Bank (NADB) announced in a statement.
The project will be funded by JMAS, as well as a loan from the NADB, and a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency-financed Border Environment Infrastructure Fund (BEIF), the statement read.
The scheduled deadline to purchase bidding documents will be June 1, with bids to be handed in no later than June 8.
The contract for construction of the 62 l/s plant will be awarded on June 25, with works slated to kick off on July 16, taking 365 calendar days to complete, according to the statement.
The costs, technical details and financing for the project, as well as whether the plant will be administered by the state or the company contracted for construction, will be defined within the next 30 days, Chihuahua water and sanitation commission JCAS spokesperson
Juan Ledesma told BNamericas. JCAS is overseeing the project’s development.
The commission also plans to award and initiate works this year on a project to expand one of Juárez’s two existing treatment plants, and build new plants in the Delicias and Hidalgo del Parral municipalities, Ledesma added.
Upon completion of these works, the state expects to treat 100% of the wastewater for cities with over 20,000 residents by 2008, said the spokesperson.
It will then focus its treatment efforts on its 38 urban areas with over 2,500 residents, in order to reach an 85% overall treatment rate from its current 65% level by 2010 – the highest in the country, he added.
