BERLIN, Germany; March 13, 2007.- From April 1, the government will offer a one-off tax rebate to the owners of older diesel cars who fit the equipment in an effort to reduce harmful traffic pollution.
Cars which were first registered by the end of 2006 and which have been retrofitted with a particle filter from the start of 2006 will be eligible for a rebate on road tax of around 330 euros (US$434).
Drivers of older diesel cars which are not fitted with a filter and which breach EU exhaust gas norms will see their vehicle excise duty rise by an average of around 25 euros per year.
