The Board of Governors seeks a visionary leader for the position of Director General to guide IWMI in its mission to overcome key challenges relating to land, water, food, livelihoods, health and the environment faced by poor rural communities. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, IWMI is a non-profit scientific organization engaged in collaborative research with partners in the North and South to develop tools and practices to help developing countries eradicate poverty and better manage their land and water resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have
- PhD or experience equivalent, plus an established professional reputation in the natural or social sciences related to land and water resources;
- Broad understanding of sustainable cross-sectoral land and water resources and the global issues affecting them;
- Senior management experience in a research and training institution; preferably in a developing country other than the country of birth;
- Strong communication skills;
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, multicultural setting;
- Extensive fundraising experience and familiarity with the relevant donor community;
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with a knowledge of French desirable.
The compensation package is competitive with positions in similar international research institutions. The initial period of contract is five years and is renewable once. IWMI encourages applications from women and developing country professionals.
