TOKYO, Japan; January 31, 2007.- The list, which includes the 3,776-metre (12,388 ft) Mount Fuji and a silk mill, a symbol of Japan’s industrialisation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, would be presented to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation later this week, government officials said.
The officials said they would expect the candidate sites to be formally included on the provisional list following approval in June from UNESCO’s World Heritage committee.
There are 10 sites in Japan that are registered as World Cultural Heritage sites and three as World Natural Heritage sites.
