“Mexico and California share a strong commitment to growing our economies, creating more jobs and increasing prosperity in ways that protect our environment and ensure we have clean air and water,”: Schwarzenegger
MONTERREY, Mexico.- California’s world-leading energy and environmental technologies took center stage today during a daylong exposition the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth produced as part of Governor Schwarzenegger’s two-day Mexico trade mission.
From solar power technology to high-efficiency pumps for use in wastewater treatment and other industrial applications, the products and services on display meet a growing demand in Mexico for energy and environmental technologies.
“Mexico and California share a strong commitment to growing our economies, creating more jobs and increasing prosperity in ways that protect our environment and ensure we have clean air and water,” said Governor Schwarzenegger, who toured the event. “The products and services represented here offer just a sampling of the many innovative energy and environmental technologies that California has to offer Mexico.”
Mexico has good reason to be interested in California’s energy and environmental technologies.
Over the past two decades, Mexico has focused increasing attention on reducing environmental impacts to its air and water from economic and population growth. Mexico’s participation in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has also spurred California’s southern neighbor to adopt tighter environmental controls and pursue cleaner alternative energy sources.
The trade expo at the Cintermex convention complex features almost 30 California companies and other employers. The colorful event follows a series of seminars and private meetings the Jobs Commission helped organize on Thursday in Monterrey that matched California and Mexican companies interested in pursuing new business opportunities.
“This expo serves an important purpose in expanding trade between California and Mexico, providing a forum for companies and employers to learn about new products, new technologies and build stronger relationships,” said Mark Mosher, executive director of the Jobs Commission.
A few of the companies participating in the trade expo include Electronic Recyclers, California’s largest recycler of electronic waste; Evolution Markets, which deals in the fast-emerging energy and environmental credit markets; and, Wilden Pumps, which manufactures pumps for wastewater treatment and other industrial uses.
A similar expo the Jobs Commission produced during the Governor’s trade mission to China last year helped a number of California businesses generate new trade leads and secure new export opportunities.
The Jobs Commission is a private, member-supported 501c4 nonprofit dedicated to promoting California as a place to invest, do business, visit and buy world-class products and services. Its board includes the Governor, his top economic advisor and leaders from California business, academia, labor and nonprofits.
